Celebrations were everywhere. There was music and dancing every where you looked. Magicians were showing off their magic. Wind mages were lifting up light mages so they could make light shows in the air. Water and earth mages were making art. The countdown was done, and most people took today off.
Today was for two celebrations. One was for the new year. It was 1210! Secondly, it was celebration for 1210 years since the Peace Treaty had been signed. There had been bumps in the road, but what could anyone expect?
There was a group still working, and that was the merchants. These were people who wouldn't stop for any celebration. If anyone forgot to bring food, they had another option. There it was, ready for the take...so long as you had the right amount of money. However, most people didn't care about the food. It was the beer, wine, and liquor that interested them...and the merchants provided.
Reseda knew that beads and jewellery was a favorite with the children. So she was quite content as she laid out the display again. She could see a few infants' eyes dart towards her. It was going to be a busy. She had no family to celebrate the New Year's coming with. Usually, she was with the gypsies, but she couldn't make it in time. She didn't regret coming here. She sort of liked it, the freedom, but having no kin or friends near wasn't her cup of tea. She would like to say that she was an independent maiden, but she really. She sighed as she sat down on her rocking chair and watched merchants busily prepare food and drinks. She wasn't hungry yet.
Jeff ran around in his stall like a madman. The drinks were set up, but there was food to tend to. He also only had one arm because his little Lukasz had a fit whenever he was put down.
Still, even then, the baby could find a reason to cry, and now he did. "Relax. Shhh." He rocked the baby as he looked to the others. "I'll be back." The two men worked for him, and they knew they might be ditched. They worked on commission, so they worked hard whether or not Jeff was there.
Jeff continued walking, and it was a near booth that caught Lukasz's attention. "What do you see?" Jeff asked as he moved closer. "Aw, beads. I think those are too grown up for you."
Calantha had joined a group of musicians that she knew in this city for tonight. Earlier yesterday, she’d been sitting in town square, her usual set of instruments hanging off her belt and shoulders, when the group had approached her. They felt that she would be perfect to help them perform in the Festival today, and she couldn’t say no. She loved music too much. Now, a few of the elder members played while the younger ones browsed amongst the stalls, Calantha among them.
Calantha had spent a good while getting dressed for tonight. She had been extremely excited. She loved festivals. She wore a white skirt with a midnight blue one over it, a white shirt pulled down to reveal her creamy shoulders. She’d made a new corset for tonight; it was a beautiful silvery blue color. Silver chains with different charms hanging from them hung around her neck, as well as multiple silvery blue scarves wrapped around her hips, each adorned with silver coins dangling from them, and one on her head, serving to keep her hair out of her face as her long black locks fell down her back. Multiple silver hoops adorned her ears, as well as silver bracelets.
She looked gorgeous, or so she thought. Calantha wandered amongst the stalls, before a stall with sparkly jewelry and beads, and immediately headed that way. She loved jewelry, and it was the only thing she couldn’t make. She stood at the booth, her hazel eyes taking it all in. Near her, a young man and a baby stood, also enchanted by the jewelry.
Reseda smiled at the infant. She loved little children. Well, mostly of any age. But she never thought of having one of her own. She also saw a young woman studying her handiwork. She smiled shyly, her natural instinct. She turned to face the toddler and looked into its eyes. She always seemed to notice the eyes first. It was all in all a very good looking child. "Is he yours?" She asked softly.
Jeff looked to the nymph when she approached, though he didn't know that's what she was. Living so long in Manti, he was used to primarily dealing with elves. She might be a better customer, and he hoped he wasn't keeping her waiting. He gave her a smile. "Good day."
She can speak up if she wants, Skye thought.
Jeff nodded to himself and looked back to the beads. "They are pretty, Lukasz, but you are still too young for them." He looked up when the merchant spoke. "Yes, he is." Jeff tickled the infant's sides, making him laugh. "He seems to like your beads, but he's a bit young for them." He paused briefly. "There is a great deal of work put into these beads. They would sell well in Manti."
Reseda smiled at the little baby. She had always adored children. In Manti. She knew that, she had been there a few decades ago. She always seemed to be on the run. But not really from anything. She wanted an excuse, she wanted a goal. "And thank you for the compliment." She flashed a smile. "I don't really have other matters to deal with, so I make the best of what I have. I came to Shayz'renth because..." She paused, "...to have some new surroundings, I suppose. I travel a lot."
As she spoke, Jeff thought of possible business opportunities. What do you think?
We can test it out, ask some questions.
Jeff kept his smile. "Have you considered selling to merchants for resell? I live in Manti, but I often travel back and forth between Osira and Shayz'renth." Dating the light sage had its perks. He had been taken back and forth several times by light mages. "Your beads would be a nice sell."
Especially in Manti when the artist is "all the way in Shayz'renth," Skye mentally added, already thinking profit.
